TRADE MARK, COPYRIGHT, PATENT AND DESIGN REGISTRATIONS

TRADE MARK REGISTRATIONS :
Trade Mark Registrations are carried out under the Trade & Merchandise Marks Act, 1958.

TRADE MARK REGISTRATION :
- Protects your goodwill which you have earned by being in business for a long period of time.
- Protects your Name / Brand Name from being used in a same or similar fashion, by any other business firm and thus
discourages others from cashing on your Name for their wrong benefit.
- Prevents other firms from trying to register or use the Name which you have already registered / or have applied for
Registration. It also protects any unique names.
- Gives an impression to your customers that the company is selling some standard Products / Services.
- Gives your products a status of ‘Branded Goods’

Trade Mark Registration can be done of :
a) any Brand, Heading, Label, Ticket, Name, Sign, Word, Numeral or any Combination of any of these.
b) any Slogan, Base Line, etc. which are used to describe any product better.

COPYRIGHT REGISTRATIONS :
Copyright Registrations protect your brand name further by Registration of your Logos or the manner in which you write
your Brand Name. When Copyright Registration is done,the Registration of the Artistic Work ie. your original work of Art.

Copyright Registration can also be done of any :
- Artistic Work (as stated above) i.e. Logo, etc.
- Book / Literary Work
- Software / Computer Programme
- Work of Architecture
- Cinematograph Film
- Sound Recording (A Cassette / A Record)

PATENT REGISTRATIONS :
Patent can be registered in respect of any invention in respect of any new and useful :
- Art, Process Method or Manner of Manufacture
- Any Machine, Apparatus or Other Article
- Any Substance produced by Manufacture and includes any new and useful improvemnet
- of any of them.

DESIGN REGISTRATIONS :
Under this, Shape Configuration or Pattern of any Article (Industrial, Consumer Products, etc.) is registered
under Designes Act, 1911. The registration is to be renewed after every 5 years.
